The launch will be at 11.30 am on Friday 28 July 2017 by Geoffrey Clifton-Brown MP in the WHT area of the BASC stand. BASC members get complimentary entry to the fair
The BASC wildfowling team will be on hand all weekend on our stand at the Game Fair to discuss and advise on all aspects of the sport. Also, the Langstone & District Wildfowlers will be providing a display including antique punt guns and assorted wildfowling artefacts and memorabilia. Club members will be on the stand all weekend to talk about wildfowling in the harbour. Don't forget BASC members get complimentary entry to the Game Fair on all three days; see https://basc.org.uk/game-fair-2017

New edition of the wildfowling permit scheme booklet
The 2017-18 edition of the BASC wildfowling permit scheme will also be launched at the Game Fair. This booklet contains many opportunities around the UK for the novice to try wildfowling, or for the experienced wildfowler to try somewhere new. There are also sections of wildfowling and the law, field craft, lead shot alternatives and more. Please see https://basc.org.uk/wildfowling/wildfowling-permit-scheme for details.

Rice Breast in Duck

13/7/2017

You may have seen the recent email from BASC regarding rice breast in ducks:

Calling all duck shooters,
We are monitoring the spread of rice breast disease (Sarcocystis) in dabbling ducks and need your help in identifying how far it has spread and for how long it’s been here. To help us get the most accurate picture it’s important that you fill in a short (five-minute) survey to say whether you’ve seen the disease or not.

Click here to access the survey

Sarcocystis, or ‘rice breast’ disease is caused by a parasite and presents as large, white rice-like grains embedded in the duck's breast muscle. It is not thought to be harmful to humans as cooking will kill the parasite, but eating infected birds is not recommended.
Remember, it’s just as important that we hear from duck shooters who have not seen this as it is that we hear from those who have. If you see any ducks with this disease in the 2017/18 season please also record them through the project website http://www.sarcocystissurvey.org.uk/
