The field secretary’s main job is to monitor the marshes and keep records of what happens on the clubs wildfowling grounds.
The main responsibilities within this position are:
- to keep shooting records, to keep members up dated on any situation that may arise (broken bridges, requests from land owners, shooting bans etc),
- answer any questions from members and to generally be the eyes and ears for the club within the wildfowling season.
In order for the club records to be kept up to date and accurate, a booking-out form has to be completed for every day that a visit is made to our club marshes. Even if a club member wishes to visit a shooting ground without actually taking their gun, then this information always gets recorded as we need to know who goes where and when they are going.
Each marsh has a maximum number of visitors allocated to it for each days morning and evening flights, this makes sure that we do not have too many visitors in the same place at the same time. This is just one of the reasons why pre booking your shooting is one of the clubs rules.
All club members are also requested to keep records of what quarry is shot, number of shots and the number of visits they take within the season. This information is collected at the end of the season and presented to any of our land owners upon request, this information can also be used to promote our sport or to help keep or extend shooting leases on our clubs marshes.
The relevant forms are in our Members' Only Area.
The club arranges a marsh walk around every summer, this is to show boundaries, car parking and pathways etc, this is mainly for the benefit of our new members. If you are an existing member wishing to recap on a marsh that you have not shot for a few seasons, then this is the perfect time to come and join us and meet both committee and other club members.
Please remember, the field secretary’s booking out is done via a club mobile phone and is only available within the shooting season, if you have any questions then please contact any of our committee members who I am sure will be able to help.
I look forward to seeing speaking to you the next time you are booking out.
